WE WANT YOU INVOLVED.
We’re really proud of The Underdog’s success over the last two years. We’ve worked with well over 400 local musicians, awarded over £6,000 in cash and prizes, and seen over 3,000 people through the doors at our shows – an average audience of over 100 per show. And we’re making sure the word gets out – we keep ourselves busy with lots of radio and TV interviews, and our organic post reach on Facebook peaked at over 80,000 last year.
What is The Underdog?
Launched in 2015, The Underdog is an ethical, grassroots take on the ‘battle of the bands’ model. The competition gives up and coming bands in the Bristol area the chance to compete for a range of prizes including studio recording, video production, website design and the grand prize, £2,000 cash. The Underdog is different from other competitions – bands are paid fairly from the first ticket sold, given feedback at every stage to help them improve, and compete for transparent prizes which offer a genuine career boost. And by using judges from the local industry, we ensure that we are more than just a popularity contest, carefully selecting our finalists – with the help of our audiences.
We’re booking the 2017 event in phases so we can spend some time listening to each band properly. We are only entering 30 bands into the Underdog this year.
Phase one is now CLOSED. You can still apply below, but no new applications will be processed until we open phase two (if phase one doesn’t give us enough suitable bands). You can see how close we are to booking all the slots below;
