IMPRINTS

FIRST PRIZE // £1,000 CASH

Gypsy / Pirate folk quartet Imprints suprised no one when they took home the £1,000 top prize at the 2016 event – from the Heats to the Grand Final they had everyone in the room dancing to their infectious hook-laden brand of upbeat ‘shanty folk’. We’re looking to seeing what they spend their winnings on, but we expect to see them all over the UK festival circuit in 2017 – we can’t wait to bring them back for The Underdog: 2017 Grand Final in September.

WE MERRY KINGS

SECOND PRIZE // THREE DAYS RECORDING

Indie pop band We Merry Kings combined fantastic songwriting with an incredible live show, scooping the second slot in the 2016 competition. Strong contenders for the top spot, these humble Bristol guys were shocked to find out they’d landed the number two slot out our sixty entrants.

We Merry Kings hit the studio with local producer Ben Capp – who’s worked with some of the biggest names in Bristol – we’re looking forward to seeing what they’ve produced!

DROGO

THIRD PRIZE // LIVE VIDEO PRODUCTION

Our first prize winners to come from the Wild Card round, as well as our first ever out-of-towner to scoop a prize; Drogo put everything into their performances during the Underdog: 2016 and were always well supported by a traveling fanbase.

Drogo have recently been to the Bristol Live Room at Factory Studios to record two live videos, which you can check out here and here.

CAITLIN ELLIMAN

MICRODOG PRIZE // ARTIST DEVELOPMENT

Sixteen year old Caitlin impressed the judges with her raw vocal talent and incredible songwriting prowess. We’ve be working with Caitlin and her new band ‘Wych Elm’ over the past few months – they’ve already hit the studio to lay down two tracks (on Spotify) as well as doing a photoshoot with Mustafa Mirreh (Tap The Feed / Bristol Live Mag). We’re going to design them a new website and create an EPK for the band too. Watch this space!

MYST

FIRST PRIZE // £1,000 CASH

Progressive metal band Myst continually impressed both the audience and the judges throughout the 2015 competition, and deservedly won the top spot to be crowned our first Grand Prize winners. Taking home the £1,000 cash they spent five days recording at Skyhammer Studios and released their debut EP “Broken Circle” in June.

Myst returned to the Underdog to headline the 2016 Grand Final, and once again amazed the crowd with their theatrical stage performance.

WHITE NOISE RADIO

SECOND PRIZE // SAWMILLS STUDIO TIME

Heavy alt rock band White Noise Radio came in second place and won a full day’s recording at the legendary Sawmills Studio in Cornwall – previously used by the likes of Muse, Oasis, The Kooks and many more big names. They used this time to lay down the drum tracks to their debut EP – which we went on to help them launch at Crofter’s Rights.

SPARK THE SAIL

THIRD PRIZE // LONDON SHOW

Indie pop / rockers Spark the Sail scooped the third prize, and we took them to London to the legendary 229 club. They supported Billy Bibby (ex Catfish & the Bottlemen) and put on a hell of a show. As with the other 2015 winners we also helped them launch their debut EP at The Louisiana!
